Richmond Flooring Retailer Closes

Richmond, VA, Jan. 4, 2011 — Capitol Floors & Decorating, a flooring and home furnishings supplier since 1969, is closed and is liquidating inventory at its showroom in western Henrico County, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The company has become a victim of the severe housing slowdown and tight lending environment.

Sales at the showroom have fallen about 80 percent in the past 2½ years — from about $10 million generated in mid-2008 to about $2 million at the end of 2010, the newspaper reported.

The company did a lot of its business in the builder market.
