Economy Expands 2.5% in Third Quarter

Washington, DC, Oct. 27, 2011 — The Commerce Department said Thursday that the economy expanded at an annual rate of 2.5% in the third quarter, almost double the 1.3% growth in the second quarter.

Analysts project similar growth for the fourth quarter.

Consumer spending rose 2.4% — more than triple the rate in the spring.
