CARE Lauds Shaw Investment in GeoHay
Dalton, GA, Jan. 12, 2011 -- The Carpet America Recovery Effort has praised Shaw Industries' investment in GeoHay, a company that produces high performance erosion control and storm water management products made of 100% recycled carpet.
CARE Executive Director Georgina Sikorski called the investment "an important step in ensuring continued diversion of postconsumer carpet from the nation's landfills."
CARE's mission is to find market-based solutions to reduce the more than 3.5 billion pounds of carpet that are discarded in landfills every year in the United States.
Sikorski said that GeoHay represents an ideal solution in that the company converts material that was otherwise headed for the waste stream into useful, economically-viable products. As a triple bonus, she adds, GeoHay products benefit the environments wherever they are installed.
Last year, GeoHay was installed at a construction site along the Foothills Parkway in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, along Walton County, Florida beaches during the Gulf Oil spill, and as part of a habitat-reclamation project for the endangered Cold Water Darter fish on North Georgia's Conasauga River, among other projects.
