Union Workers Striking at One Tuftco Location
Chattanooga, TN, October 8, 2015—Union workers at Chattanooga’s Tuftco plant are striking after being offered a wage and benefit package that, according to the company, "far exceeds the average manufacturing company compensation plan in the Chattanooga region."
The strikers are part of the Machinist Union. Tuftco has three additional plants that are non-union: two in Dalton, Georgia and one in Palmer, Tennessee.
Tuftco, which produces manufacturing machines for the soft surface flooring, reports that the stoppage represents less than 10% of its total work force.
In a statement to the media, Tuftco president Steven Frost said, "We will shift some production to our other plants, in addition to continuing to operate our Chattanooga facility, in order to assure our customers and suppliers that we are conducting "business as usual. We do not foresee this work stoppage having any negative impact on the company for the long term."
