Mannington Commercial Acquires AtlasMasland from Dixie Group

Calhoun, GA, June 30, 2021-Mannington Commercial has entered into an agreement to acquire select assets of AtlasMasland, the commercial floorcovering business of The Dixie Group. The transaction is expected to close within the next 45 days.

At the transaction’s completion, Mannington Commercial will gain AtlasMasland’s existing product lines, tufting machinery and other equipment assets from The Dixie Group’s Atmore, Alabama, facility. The equipment will be relocated and installed at Mannington Commercial’s carpet manufacturing facility in Calhoun, Georgia. The Atmore facility is not included as part of the transaction and will remain with The Dixie Group. All operations for both companies, including ordering, shipping, invoicing, claims and customer service will remain the same until the purchase is complete.

We are also gaining proven product lines that are well-established within certain commercial segments where we see expanded growth opportunities. Taken together, we will be accelerating our growth and better serving our customers with a more comprehensive set of floorcovering solutions.”

Says Russell Grizzle, CEO of Mannington, “AtlasMasland has a strong brand in the commercial market, some great looking products, and this move will not only give us an expanded presence in the market but also improve our manufacturing efficiencies.”

While the AtlasMasland acquisition includes both soft and hard surface products, carpet comprises the largest part of the business. According to June 2021’s The Top Specified Carpet Manufacturers, Mannington is the eighth largest specified carpet manufacturer with sales of $117 million, and AtlasMasland is the ninth with $59 million in sales.

Prior to Engineered Floors acquisition of J+J, J+J and Mannington shared a modular tile factory in Calhoun, Georgia. J+J’s departure from that facility impacted Mannington Commercial’s efficiencies, and this move will right that imbalance.

Comments Dan Frierson, chairman of The Dixie Group, “The sale of our commercial flooring business enables us to focus on the rapidly growing residential market and improve the profitability of The Dixie Group.” Dixie adds, Mannington would absorb the company's AtlasMasland sales, marketing and product design functions. The company expects the transition to take several months to complete. During that time, The Dixie Group will continue to manufacture goods for Mannington while they relocate tufting machines and other equipment to its facilities in Calhoun, Georgia.

The AtlasMasland purchase follows Mannington Commercial’s acquisition of Amtico, a provider of luxury vinyl tile in 2012 and Burke Flooring, a manufacturer of rubber and vinyl floorcoverings in 2008.
