FloorTek Show Begins Tuesday in Dalton

Dalton, GA, Sept. 21, 2009--FloorTek gets underway Tuesday here, but exhibitors are down about 20 percent thanks to a questionable economy.

The FloorTek Expo is the biennial trade show sponsored by the Dalton-based American Floorcovering Alliance and is the only show of its kind. It will be at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center from Tuesday through Thursday.

Organizers say FloorTek is the only international floorcovering manufacturing trade show dedicated to production and technology featuring the latest equipment, machinery and materials. It is also the only floorcovering trade show held in Dalton.

There will be an opening morning panel discussion, exhibits, supplier-led discussion groups and an awards reception honoring contributions to the floorcovering industry. The expo will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show is open to the pubic and admission is free.

Two years ago, more than 100 companies and salespeople showed off their wares in the trade center exhibit halls. This year, organizer Wanda Ellis expects about 80 companies. The show is drawing companies from numerous countries, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, India and Switzerland. Attendees are also expected from Canada and Mexico.

Awards will be presented in four categories. The categories and nominees are:

• Individual leadership: Carl Bouckaert, Jim Shaheen and Robert “Bob” Shaw.

• Environmental: Cycle-Tex, Mohawk Industries and Shaw Industries.

• Product/method innovation: Card Monroe Corp., Tuftco Corp. and Zimmer.

• Contribution to the industry: Beaulieu of America and Textile Rubber and Chemical.
